Japanese Noh
Deep Roots
A Japanese Noh actor, Mikata Shizuka, dances in Atsumori, during a rare performance in London. Noh theater, 700 years old with even older roots, is considered a lofty expression of Japanese aesthetic qualities, imbued with ancient dance, classical poetry, and Zen Buddhism. This play tells a story of the 11th century choreographed and written by the founder of Noh, and one of its greatest dancers, Ze-ami.
