An Evolving Project
Conversations on Dance began in 2014
as an iOS app. It was designed and created by Core of Culture, for Nancy Lassalle, Director Emeritus, New York City Ballet. It was her vision to create a means of passing along the ideas of Classicism to young dancers and artists, specifically at the School of American Ballet in New York City. The project became a collaboration with educators, artists, historians and writers. Each was asked to select twelve images and four texts that best portrayed the appointed theme under the main headings of Classicism, Art, and Choreography. The Socratic method was employed to engage students in opened ended dialogue. The design of the app utilized a custom coded interface based on the golden section, with images scrolling in a continuous spiral.
